Dual Credit Courses Expand for Grade 12 Students
Students entering Grade 12 next year can earn college credits while still in high school through an expanded dual credit program offered by SD72.
The district’s Careers Department is introducing a wider range of academic dual credit courses in partnership with North Island College. The program allows students to begin their post-secondary studies early, at no cost for tuition, while gaining experience in a college learning environment.
Courses are available in areas such as social work, medical administration, business, digital culture, criminology, English, psychology and sociology. Most courses will be delivered through North Island College’s Comox campus, with flexible options for students who live outside the area. Delivery may be in person, online or a mix of both.
Students can take up to two courses per semester, with the winter session starting February 1, 2027. Most courses require English 12 with a minimum grade of C+. Biology 160 also requires Chemistry 11 and Biology 12, each with a minimum grade of C+.
Interested students are asked to connect with their school counsellor to plan their timetable and confirm the program fits their graduation and career pathway. Students must complete both an and a . Applications are also available through school career centres.
Spaces are limited, and completed applications must be submitted to the school career centre for review and forwarding to North Island College.
Courses are funded by the district, and students are expected to attend regularly and complete their coursework.
